In conjunction with its exhibition, Another Look at the New Look, the Massillon Museum will present the “Do the Mu!” program, “Your New Look,” on Saturday, February 4. It is free and open to everyone. Participants may drop in any time between noon and 2:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month for a museum activity. No pre-registration is required.
Artist Libby Doss will work with participants to design fabric brooches. Younger participants will enjoy a no-sew stamp-and-paint project, while older children and adults will create more advanced brooches with a needle-and-thread sewing option.
Inspired by French designer Christian Dior’s 1947 debut collection, called “the New Look” by the media, Another Look examines Dior’s feminine silhouette from both a design and historical perspective. It features everyday clothing worn by the average American woman—the feminine 1950s woman as she emerged from fabric rationing and working in factories.
In addition to viewing Another Look at the New Look, “Do the Mu” participants will be able to tour the Studio M exhibition, Chris Muller presents The Year of Chris; the new Massillon Tiger football exhibit, The Paul Brown Era; two Civil War displays; a photography exhibit about Massillon’s historic Fourth Street; and The Immel Circus. It’s also fun to take some silly pictures in the vintage photobooth.
The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East (Ohio Route 172) in downtown Massillon. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby city streets. For more information, call the Museum at 330-833-4061 or visit massillonmuseum.org.
