Recently several men and women have come to me and expressed a desire to participate in the Bill Glass Champions for Life Prison Ministry. Some have stories similar to mine, but most are just normal people who love the Lord and have been believers since early childhood and earnestly want to find a way to help spread the Gospel.
I’ve also had numerous others who came to me and volunteered to be a part of assisting the Williamson Family Foundation in getting my book Miracle on Luckie Street into every prison in the country. Some have volunteered to work and others have donated money to this cause.
One friend of mine is a former Senator from Georgia who volunteered to use his contacts to help get the book into Georgia prisons. He called this week to let me know that the Commissioner of prisons read my book and subsequently has agreed to write a cover letter to all of the state prisons in Georgia to allow it to be placed into their libraries. Praise the Lord! This is quite an accomplishment, because it is much harder to donate books to a prison than one might think.
Another friend, a former sheriff, judge, and lobbyist is doing something very similar in Florida and based upon his update to me this week, I believe we will be successful there shortly as well. We hope to then leverage these two fine states and use them as models for the others. It will take some hard work, but one day soon desperate men all over this country will read it and find hope and a way to transform their lives through Jesus Christ.
I have other friends who have volunteered to help promote my book and secure speaking engagements with businessmen and women and their organizations, various prayer and worship groups, rehab centers, and other opportunities where I can share what God has done in my life and thereby give them hope that Jesus will do bigger things in their own lives.
I spoke with one of my friends in Sunday school last week about the thrill of seeing hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of men giving their lives to the Lord in Texas a couple of weeks ago. Most of the people who fill the aisles in church each week don’t ever experience such a sight. Interestingly most churches concentrate on the needs of the congregation in a pastoral rather than an evangelical effort.
Hmmm… The last thing Jesus did before ascending to heaven after His resurrection as recorded in all four Gospels was to instruct us to go throughout the world spreading the “good news” of His path to salvation. I don’t think He would have given it this kind of emphasis if He didn’t feel that this was the most important responsibility of His church.
Yes Christians have needs and pastoral care is just what the doctor ordered in many cases, but how much more so do we need evangelism and revival in this world. It is a rare bird in many churches for ANYONE to ever be saved. I can’t help but think the number one priority of their mission statements should begin with leading the lost to Christ.
And for those who sow those seeds and see the harvest, let me tell you, it is a thrill of a lifetime.
There are many ways to lead others to Christ. I have received thousands of e-mails from those who have expressed to me that this daily devotional, Words for the Day, has helped them enormously in finding God and in their daily walk with Him. Amazingly through the years I have received several letters where suicides have narrowly been averted because they happened to read one of my entries and it made them realize that no matter what their circumstance God loves them with all His heart and wants all of us to mightily succeed no matter what satan might try to get us to believe, say, or do.
I know of several people who have begun there own Words for the Day and are sending it to various co-workers, friends, and acquaintances. Even the young son of one of my employees has started texting a group of his friends with a daily devotional and from all reports it is being well received.
So what are you doing to obey Jesus’ last command to us in all four Gospels? If you think you have nothing to offer, I strongly urge you to click on the link of this very moving video and see what this young man is doing with what has been given to him. Just think if he can do what he is doing with what he has been given, how much more so can you give. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=W5mbldTkruM&feature=share
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”
